Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Matthew Geck of the Seton Spine and Scoliosis Center

Matthew Geck, MD, is a spine surgeon at the Seton Spine and Scoliosis Center in Austin, Texas. He specializes in scoliosis, kyphosis, cervical disc replacement and cervical myelopathy. Dr. Geck has performed more than 1,200 spine operations since become a board-certified orthopedic surgeon a decade ago.

Dr. Geck has written or presented more than 40 scientific papers on orthopedic and spine issues, appearing in the journals Spine, The Journal of Spinal Disorders, and Orthopedic Clinics in North America. He is actively researching minimally invasive scoliosis reconstruction, surgical planning and complex osteotomy surgery.

Additionally, Dr. Geck is founder of SpineHope, a non-profit that offers surgery to underprivileged children worldwide with spinal deformities and conducts research on pediatric spinal issues.

A native of Wisconsin, Dr. Geck earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. He later completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the UCLA Medical Center and then two spine surgery fellowships: one at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and a second fellowship at Miami Children's Hospital focusing on complex spinal deformities.
