Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis underwent an emergency fasciotomy to relieve pressure in his leg caused by swelling, which team physician Neal ElAttrache, MD, said could have resulted in amputation if he had waited any longer, according to an ESPN report. Mr. Ellis first experienced pain during play on Friday night and went to the hospital after the pain persisted into Saturday. He is expected to spend at least six weeks on the sideline after surgery and his return to play timeline is still unknown.
